April 27, 1917

Fri. cloudy

Packed house at Fi-fi. Dance after. Did not stay. Wore green skirt and dresden polanaise, powdeed hair, white stockings & black shoe. Everything fine. Olive & Jones here. Joe & I have left stage & going to movies.

Note: Sort of an odd entry. Who's Joe?

    Interesting that she refers to him as "Joe" when it's usually Mr. This and Miss or Mrs. That. Maybe a longtime friend?

    I know - It seems very out of character and I don't recall Joe later in the diary either.
    I did wonder if perhaps Joe was a young kid but then you'd think that May would go along with them. It's odd.

    Also strange that all of a sudden she's using the present tense.
