  1. A lot of going to the movies. How do you think that worked? Did the cinemas show newsreels and shorts? Must have been silent movies at that time. Do you think they ran continuously and you could just pay and walk in anytime?

  2. From what I've read about them, movies were made very quickly and in great quantity - so going to the movies was generally seeing the main feature, (which was often released as a serial adventure) several news reels, perhaps travel "shorts" and various public messages, etc. all of which were changed frequently.
Until I read this diary, though, I had no idea that (at least apparently in Springfield, Vermont) they were changed on a daily basis.
I believe admission was five cents.

  3. Oh, and I think you're right about them playing continuously. I think that practice actually went on for a long time.
